[Activity] Tea Ceremony Experience

The tea ceremony is the form through which one may most profoundly experience that the Way of Tea is not merely a set of formalities, but a “comprehensive art” integrating Japanese aesthetics, spirituality, and a refined awareness of the seasons.
In this experience, held in an actual training space in the ancient city of Kamakura, you will take part in a formal tea ceremony conducted in accordance with the established procedure of the Urasenke tradition, one of the recognised schools of the Way of Tea. From the welcoming reception and entry into the tearoom, through the laying of the first charcoal, the light meal, sweets, and the intermission, and finally to the preparation and sharing of thick tea followed by thin tea, you will experience the ceremony in its true and complete form.
This is not a simplified version designed for tourism. Within the quiet flow of time, and with a strictly limited number of participants, you will savour an authentic tea ceremony in which the seasonal setting, refined gestures, utensils, tea, and cuisine become one harmonious whole.
