[Activity] Pull Dyeing (Traditional Japanese Hand Dyeing)

Hikizome is a traditional Japanese dyeing technique in which fabric is stretched onto a frame and layers of colour are applied by drawing dye across the surface with a brush. Within these simple movements, the artisan’s sensibility and experience are subtly expressed, and even when using the same colours, each person’s work reveals a distinct character.
In this workshop, participants first observe a demonstration by a skilled craftsman, then carefully learn the fundamentals of handling dyes and brush techniques. By blending colours of their own, they will dye an original scarf that reflects their individual expression.
Once completed, the finished piece may be collected after drying and fixing, or delivered by post.
