Miki Ueda - Wa-bocho Aesthetics Ambassador

After building a career in the fashion and trading industries for over 15 years, I began to question whether this really was "the right path" for me. Balancing the demands of raising three children and a career invovled sacrifices I was not sure I wanted to make anymore. To reflect and reevaluate, I transitioned to a part-time consulting role. Around this time, I had a life changing encounter with traditional Japanese knives, and  was captivated by their beauty and craftsmanship. I had the opportunity to take up knife sharpening lessons under Master Kawabata, who carries on the techniques of the renowned craftsman Shozo Mizuyama, and was hooked! It is from there that I decided I wanted to share this vanishing craft to the world.

I had also earned my kimono dressing instructor qualification in my twenties, the other side of my long-standing love for Japanese culture. Now, I am channeling this passion into organizing workshops focused on Japanese knives and kimonos, sharing the beauty of Japanese craftsmanship with the world. My goal is to provide people with new insights and energy through these experiences.

Their extensive experience, refined skills, and artistic sensitivity are reflected in each blade, resulting in a knife that stands apart in terms of beauty, usability, and durability. Not every manufacturer can commission knives from artisans of this caliber, and it is this rarity and exceptional value that makes Kōhō knives highly regarded by chefs and collectors alike.

In addition to traditional steel knives, Kōhō also offers knives made from AUS steel, a type of stainless steel known for its rust resistance and exceptional durability. AUS steel is easy to maintain in everyday use and retains its sharpness for extended periods. Kōhō's AUS steel knives are crafted to high standards and offer an excellent balance of quality and affordability, making them both accessible and highly functional.
