KŌHŌ〈髙鳳〉
A blade that embodies harmony and artistry
Crafted through Japan’s centuries-old knife-making tradition, each KŌHŌ knife is a fusion of masterful skill and quiet beauty. To see it, to hold it, is to feel timeless value in your hands.
What is KŌHŌ〈髙鳳〉?
KŌHŌ is a Japanese knife brand born in Sakai, the heart of traditional cutlery.
Each knife is the result of a collaborative division of labor, where only the finest artisans are entrusted with forging, quenching, sharpening, and handle fitting. The outcome: blades that transcend tools to become true works of art.
From the perfect weight balance to the smooth glide of the edge, every detail reflects harmony between material and craftsmanship.
Once available only through select introductions, these exceptional knives are now offered exclusively through Japonistique.
Masters Behind KŌHŌ

Yoshikazu Ikeda
(White Steel, Mizuyaki Honyaki)
Designated “Master of Naniwa” by Osaka Prefecture.
Specializes in the rare mizuyaki honyaki technique, creating unmatched sharpness and a crystalline finish.

Shogo Yamatsuka
(Ginsan Steel, Honyaki)
Traditional craftsman renowned for using silver-3 steel and a unique “fluidized bed quenching” method, achieving even hardness and flowing beauty.

Satoshi Nakagawa
(Blue Steel #1, Damascus)
A young craftsman shaping 16-layer Damascus blades from blue steel and soft iron.
The wave-like patterns across the blade reveal both structural mastery and artistic elegance.
KŌHŌ AUS Series – Knives for Everyday Use
To share Japanese knife culture more widely, KŌHŌ also offers a stainless steel line made from AUS steel.

KDurable, rust-resistant, and easy to handle, these knives retain the sharpness and form of traditional Japanese blades—ideal for daily use and for those new to Japanese knives.

FAQ
Q. Are the knives functional, or just for display?
A. All knives are delivered with a sharpened edge and can be used immediately. Many customers also collect them as works of art due to their exquisite finish.
Q. Do you ship internationally?
A. Yes, Japanese knives are classified as kitchen tools and can be shipped to many countries. Please note some regions may have import restrictions.
Q. Can I request engraving?
A. Yes. Please select “Engraving” when ordering and specify up to 8 characters. By default, engravings are placed on the back of the blade.
Q. Why is the lead time up to 18 months?
A. Each knife is handcrafted by select master artisans. With global demand rising and the number of craftsmen decreasing, we currently require about 18 months for delivery.
Q. How should I care for my knife?
A. Wipe dry after use and store in a dry environment. While Ginsan and AUS steel are rust-resistant, we recommend the same care as with carbon steel knives. Avoid dishwashers and long-term storage inside the sheath.
Q. Why are KŌHŌ knives so expensive?
A. Unlike mass-produced knives, KŌHŌ knives involve only the most trusted artisans at every stage. From the temper line to the handle fitting, every detail is perfected. Even the brand name is hand-carved, not printed. They are designed to deliver both usability and the joy of ownership.
